No livro o autor descreve três ingredientes, gin, creme de cacau e creme misturados com gelo picado. 7 anos após a publicação do livro, no dia 28 de fevereiro de 1922, um barman que estava na festa de casamento de um conde e uma princesa, fez uma releitura adicionando pela primeira vez o brandy a! o invés de gin. O sexto conde era Henry Lascelles ea princesa de Harewwod era a bela Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary. O Barman para homenagear a princesa em uma das datas mais importantes da sua vida, batizou o drink com seu nome chamando-o assim de Alexander. Victoria era a única filha do rei Jorge V ea Rainha Maria.
